BENJAMIN ARTHUR BROWN
'Slipping' - a short lived, nihilist phenomena which gripped Essex in the mid to late 2000s, which saw its practitioners driving at night without lights and attempting to 'slip' past and between other cars on the road.
Through an installation of sculpture, painting and video, ‘…to the nowhere coasting, green…’ is formed from the expanded research into ‘Slipping’. Through processes of historical, societal and anthropological examination and acts of ‘fictioning’, this exhibition is an exploded presentation of the psyche of those that took part, building a scene and questioning the many external influences that would lead to such dangerous behavior.
Benjamin Arthur Brown (b.1994) is an Artist, Writer and Curator born in Essex, currently living and working in London. He attended the Slade School of Fine Art and has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. He works closely with Van Gogh House London, curating several shows and projects.
Brown works across sculpture, writing and sound, with frequent deviations into other media. His work often concerns itself with the intersection between reality and the surreal; how objects can become totems – capsules for narratives and how our bodies and imaginations are webbed together in networks of consumption.
