To me, motherhood embodies protection, honesty, guidance, love, and stability. It’s a role I cherish deeply, one that shapes my identity and fills me with pride. Balancing the demands of parenthood with my passion for creating art is both a challenge and a privilege, offering a constant interplay between nurturing life and nurturing creativity.
MOTHERFATHER brings together ten artists who are also mothers and fathers, each grappling with the intricate dance of raising and supporting children while sustaining a dynamic creative practice. This exhibition aims to ignite a conversation about the complexities and rewards of being both a parent and an artist. By showcasing the work of artists I deeply respect, I hope to explore how these dual roles intersect, challenge, and ultimately enrich one another, revealing the resilience and adaptability required to thrive in both spheres.
Join us also for a very special event at Asylum Studios at 3pm on 7th December to hear Hettie Judah talk about her new book, Acts of Creation: on Art and Motherhood followed by a Q & A with Annabel Dover.
