JULIA HESELTINE - 'PAINTINGS' 2022

September 10th - 18th

Paintings with a distinct and occasionally disturbing imagery; a catalogue of rendered dreams describing a deeply personal response to a place and its people. For the last thirty years Julia’s place has been Suffolk.

Julia says she has always been more comfortable with non-human subjects – yet her portraits reveal a great sensitivity to people. Indeed, her training in classical portraiture under her mother Anna Zinkeisen, and her long career as a professional portrait artist, explain the technical mastery evident in her other work. That work is the subject of this exhibition.

Here, a keenly observed sense of humour meets a penetrating insight. A troubled world meets her own turbulent experiences. What emerge are paintings with a distinct and occasionally disturbing imagery; a catalogue of rendered dreams describing a deeply personal response to a place and its people. For the last thirty years Julia’s place has been Suffolk.
